Hey y’all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Marathon Monday update but today I’m here to share yet another change of plans to my running-related goals.
Coming into 2019, my goal was to run four half marathons throughout the year – ideally one per quarter. If you read my post on Friday about my MARCH CHALLENGE, you know those goals have changed and that running was not going to be my focus this month. That was until this weekend when my friend Yvette (@mrsyvettepriscilla / https://mrsyvettepriscilla.com/) informed us of this cool race taking place in April – the Foam Glow 5K!
This race is exactly what it sounds like: running at nighttime getting blasted with foam that glows in the dark. How cool does that sound?
I don’t plan on doing a very intense training plan for this, but I will be loosely following my trusty Nike Run Club app. The app takes your level of current activity (how many miles you’re running per week), the distance you plan to race and the amount of time until race day and builds a dynamic plan for you. As you move throughout the plan and complete or skip the workouts, it adjusts based on where you’re at for that week. It’s an easy way to train and adjust without having to think about it too much. I found it when I was just starting out as a runner seven years ago and it did not intimidate me at all which I found important.
This is what I love about life – when random plans and new activities pop up and we get to try them out. I fully believe that having goals is important but it’s also nice to be able to switch it up and add something new to the mix.
I’m not one of these people who is going to say only look at your destination and ignore or say no to everything that doesn’t get you there. I think taking a different route home or scheduling a random 5K keeps things spicy and exciting. My dad taught me that and I’m very appreciative for it.
As for my running goals beyond this 5k? Not super solid yet. I still plan on running the Rock N Roll Vegas race in November – whether it be the Half Marathon or the Full Marathon I do not know yet. I’m hoping to run a Half Marathon before that as well. This will most likely be out of state because the temperature here will only continue to rise (not fast enough if you ask me.) So stay tuned because who knows where or what I’ll be running next!
